Early Years Learning Framework

At Little Sparkles ELC, our educational programs are guided by Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF V2.0). The EYLF is an approved national learning framework under Australia’s National Quality Framework (NQF) for children from birth to five years of age. It guides educators in planning, delivering and evaluating learning experiences that support each child’s learning, development and wellbeing.

Learning Through Play and Intentional Teaching

The EYLF recognises play-based learning and intentionality as an important practice in early childhood education. At Little Sparkles ELC, our educators thoughtfully plan play-based experiences that respond to children’s interests, strengths, abilities and individual learning needs.

Through a combination of play, exploration, intentional teaching and meaningful interactions, children are supported to develop their knowledge, skills, confidence and sense of belonging. The EYLF takes a holistic approach, recognising that children’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive and other aspects of learning and wellbeing are interconnected.

The Five EYLF Learning Outcomes

The EYLF V2.0 identifies five broad and observable Learning Outcomes that guide children’s learning and development:

1. Children have a strong sense of identity
2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world
3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
4. Children are confident and involved learners
5. Children are effective communicators

These outcomes are not intended to be rigid milestones that every child must reach at a particular age. Rather, they recognise that children learn in different ways and progress at different rates, with each child’s learning journey being unique and meaningful.

A Holistic Approach to Early Learning

The EYLF V2.0 brings together Vision, Principles, Practices and Learning Outcomes to guide early childhood educators in their curriculum decision-making. Its principles include secure and respectful relationships, partnerships with families and communities, respect for diversity, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, equity and inclusion, sustainability, ongoing professional learning, and collaborative leadership.

At Little Sparkles ELC, these principles and practices are reflected throughout our early childhood education programs. Our educators observe and listen to children, work in partnership with families, and use their knowledge of each child to plan experiences that support their ongoing learning, development and wellbeing.

Supporting Every Child’s Learning Journey

We understand that every child is unique. Our early learning programs are designed to respond to children’s individual interests, strengths, cultures, experiences and capabilities while creating opportunities for them to explore, participate, develop relationships and build confidence.

As children prepare for their transition to school, we support them in developing the skills, dispositions and confidence that contribute to becoming confident and involved learners and effective communicators. The EYLF specifically aims to extend and enrich children’s learning from birth through their transition to school.
